2024 Week twenty-eight Painting Blog

Monday

Hobbystreak day 562 (Monday 15 July 2024).

Started actually painting the first six clanrats. If I do any more at once then I’ll get bogged down. Also printed out a bunch of basing bits because you can never have too many of them.

Why do so many designers make STLs for bases with nowhere to actually put the mini on them?

Tuesday

Hobbystreak day 563 (Tuesday 16 July 2024).

It occurs to me that I actually have a bunch of units used in Spearhead from Stormbringer. And some of them are half painted on my desk. I need to do a consolidation and see what I have. I bet I’m only a few characters short on some of them.

I did the rest of the metal and fur/skin on the Skaven and red cloak on the Canoness.

Wednesday

Hobbystreak day 564 (Wednesday 17 July 2024).

The skaven now have red clothing.

Thursday

Hobbystreak day 565 (Thursday 18 July 2024).

More of an organisational day today as did some 3d printing and worked on sorting out my working area a bit more to remove more annoyances and get to having a clearer desk all the time. It was also too hot to be bothered with painting so I went to the beach to take reference photos. Well that’s my excuse anyway.

I also did some stash sorting to find the Necromunda kits I’ve not built yet. They’re all scenery and would help my “I want to take more interesting pictures of minis” problems.

Friday

Hobbystreak day 566 (Friday 19 July 2024).

Bit more Skaven work, but too hot to be bothered with painting.

Saturday

Hobbystreak day 567 (Saturday 20 July 2024).

Printed out some small scatter scenery things and undercoated them ready for painting. Also started on the wood on the Skaven models by giving them a coat of orange brown. I think that will end up looking better than a dark wood.

Sunday

Hobbystreak day 568 (Sunday 21 July 2024).

I need to sort of photography again. I moved everything around and didn’t create a dedicated photography area so it’s too much of a pain to actually take a picture.

I have been doing a lot of 3D printing to fill in Sortimo boxes/trays/things to hold my modelling supplies though. That’s going well and I’ve almost got all my frequently used paints stored in them. The idea being that I’ll keep the paints neatly away and only pull out the ones I want for the model I’m working on, which can stay on a set of gridfinity holders while they’re in use before being returned to the box afterwards.

More work on the Skaven, with the annoying fact that I’ve assembled a standard bearer in the first batch of 6. Now what do I put on that?
