2023 Week Four Painting Blog

Monday

I decided that screw it, the other imperium models are getting built today so that’s five Necron Lychguard waiting to be undercoated. My method for Necrons means they need a dark-ish brown base that I do with the airbrush so if I’m cracking it out for one model I might as well do six.

Tuesday

Lychguard arms and weapons are horrible and I regret my choices.

Nearly finished the marine turret thing that I can’t be arsed to remember the name for. I really like it as a model, and it’s really well designed. There’s a lot of places where you can just go “nah, that’s enough detail” while leaving a lot of scope for a more advanced paint job if you want. Much better than the usual “there’s far too many pouches and things on my marine and it’s sapping my will to live.” I’m skipping painting the base as it feels like it would be an army wide decision that I’m not in the position to make right now.

Wednesday

Broke out the airbrush and then spent ages doing a better job of cleaning it than when I put it away. Abrushes to not bring me joy, even if they are fantastic tools for mini painting.

Thursday

Busy day, but finished building the Necron Lychguard. Still hate their arm/weapon joins. Also finished the turret with some fluorescent paint on screens and scanners and stuff. It can now go live on the shelf of never being seen again-ness as I can’t think of when I would ever use it.

Friday

The new Killteam box was revealed and I’m 100% on board with Arbites vs Kabelite Warriors. The scenery has some nice new bits for the hulk, as well as more walls that puts the amount you’ll end up having after buying all 3 boxes as what I would describe as “comically over catered for.” Am I meant to not buy every box GW? Do you not want me to? That doesn’t sound like you.

Onto Necrons today. A nice dark-ish brown base followed by sponging on lighter colours up to nearly yellow and you have a nice fast rust effect.

Saturday

The necron heavy destroyer’s connection to his base has snapped somehow. I may have attacked it too heavily with a sponge. I’m also out of paperclips! Added some runelord brass in the meantime to pick out some details.

Sunday

Amazon provided paperclips so Necron heavy destroyer is now pinned to the base. Added some nice bright yellow to his orby things and some sand to be base because even in space skeleton warriors need to be in the desert. Not going to get him finished this week now, but should be all done tomrrow.
